Education as a way out of poverty

Bicycle
Bicycle A basic mountain bike in the Gambia costs only 50. Many students have to travel up to 5km each way to get to school in temperatures of 35 degrees celcius. This is often on an empty stomach also as breakfast is not ready by the time they leave at about 6.30am. A bicycle to get to and from school reduces the time and effort taken to reach school, and gives the student the possibility to make extra evening and computer classes, which often occur outside of the normal school day.
